Riley Update

Well, after three days of being on his various medications, Riley seems to finally be feeling a wee bit better. He’s still limping a bit on his left leg and he still doesn’t bark (it’s been VERY quiet around here for the past few days), but at least he felt good enough to play with one of his favorite toys tonight.

Cathy, from Color and Texture, was kind enough to award me a “Lemonade Stand Award” on her blog today.

I’m thrilled by Cathy’s comment:

“Kristine has three Cardigan Welsh Corgis, takes beautiful photographs, is an amazing dog trainer and great writer.”

Wow. I’m blushing ;-)

I love photography, I love training dogs and I love writing–I feel blessed that in these days of electronic communicaiton, it’s so easy to share what I love doing with others!

I’m thrilled Cathy thinks highly of my dog training skills–had anyone seen Zoey! run agility today, you  might have other thoughts.

I’m no longer going to call her Zoey!, I’m going to call her, “ZOEY!!!!”

My little girl seemed to really LOVE the matted floors at this indoor trial. I realized today that I shouldn’t complain about running agility in muddy horse barns–apparently the mud at least slows down ZOEY!!! a bit.

Today she was just a blazing blue streak–who still thinks weave poles are far too boring for her to bother with ;-)

I love my crazy girl but sheesh…she was truly, truly crazy today!

Thanks again Cathy! I promise to nominate some fellow bloggers very soon…stay tuned!

While I was cleaning the house the other day, I realized how much the Corgis have influenced our home design and decor.

With the help of a wide-angle lens and a little bit of HTML code, I present to you an interactive tour of one of the rooms the Cardi Crew spends a large amount of time in during the day–see if you can find all 8 of the Corgi-specific features in the room.

I am blessed to have some very, very good friends from the dog world.

Last week, MBDFINM (My Best Dog Friend I’ve Never Met) sent me THESE.

This week, MBDFIHM (My Best Dog Friend I Have Met) sent me this:

Shannon makes these by needle-felting wool (which is produced by her own flock of sheep).  I adore it!

I should mention that both Kim (who painted these GORGEOUS miniature pieces of Cardi art) and Shannon have websites where you can learn more about their art:

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: Dog friends are the BEST friends!

One of Riley’s favorite toys

“Mighty Mouse” may be one of Riley’s favorite toys, but I don’t let him play with it very often. With ”Mighty’s” blinking eyes and the annoying voice (not to mention Riley’s non-stop barking), it’s just a little too loud to bring out most of the time. Riley’s favorite thing to do is to pick up “Mighty” by his tail and toss him–so far, despite multiple bashings on the basement concrete floor, “Mighty” survives…

Ok…we aren’t THAT popular

So this post begins with the thought that even though some of the videos I have on “YouTube” have been viewed several thousand times, there is at least one dog and handler pair who have been seen by MILLIONS of people.

The wonderful thing about it, is that I’ve even met this person! Carolyn Scott is, without a doubt, one of the best performers EVER in the sport of canine musical freestyle. If you haven’t seen this video (and really, who hasn’t?), then you’ll be amazed by it:

Carolyn came to Portland several years ago to give a seminar and I attended it with Rugby and Riley. At the time, Riley and I were having a difficult time finding the right music to do a routine to. After all, it’s not easy finding the right music to match a 5′9″ human with to a 12″ dog!

After watching Riley and I move around for awhile, Carolyn said, “I know what song you need!” and grabbed a CD. On it was, “Charlie Brown” by “The Coasters”. It fit us perfectly. I was grateful to Carolyn for working with us that day; she is such a kind person. It saddened me to hear that the dog in the video (Rookie) recently passed away.

Riley and I never did work up a routine to the Charlie Brown song, but that song might get danced to yet by a Corgi…
