Deborah Wood brought her wonderful Papillon Pogo to PDXDog Town on Saturday. He was there, not in his role as a therapy dog, but rather as a spectator and to help Deb judge a pet parade.
After the parade was over, I was speaking to Deb about a variety of things, including Pogo’s career as a therapy dog. While we were talking, a girl wandered over towards us, literally drawn to Pogo like a magnet. She began talking and it turns out she was a bit nervous about being around big dogs. She was clearly calmed by Pogo, one of just a handful of small dogs who were in attendance on Saturday.
As they spoke, Pogo took his paw and reached out to touch the girl. Deb told me later that he does this frequently during his therapy dog visits; it turns out he usually places his paws on locations that are known acupuncture points for stress relief.
