Twelve years ago a litter of Cardi puppies was born in Portland. If memory serves me, there were six puppies total and the runt of the litter was a red-and-white male who went by the name of “Twister” back then.
These days everyone knows him as Rugby. Rugby-Do. Lil’ Dude. The Rug-man.

I took Rugby and Riley to a dog halloween costume contest in 2000. Both boys had hand-me-down outfits from their Sheltie cousin Kip (my mom thinks of the best dog costumes 
. Riley went as Mickey Mouse and Rugby went as a little lumberjack. I smile every time I see this photo of him.
One of the many projects on my, ‘to do’ list is to convert all my old analog videos into digital format. I’ve been working on it a bit the past couple of days and have really enjoyed looking back at the various videos from over the years.
Here’s a little clip of Rugby and Riley wrestling with each other back in May of 2001. Rugby would have been 4 years old and Riley was not quite 2. I think they spend more times on their backs than they do on their legs:
I wrote the story, “My Mom, The Videographer” about 3 years ago.
I’m sure there are people out there who think I make up a lot of the stuff I write about–I can assure you that every story I’ve ever written is based, to some degree, on an actual event that happened to me.
I think this video, taken at a Redmond, OR obedience trial in 2001, collaborates my story pretty darn well…
oh hey. still snowing. at first they said another 2 inches today. now they are saying 4 or 5 inches today.
they suspect we’ll be closing in on 20 inches total by the end of the day.
and they say,
“this is some sort of snow record for portland.” imagine that.
last winter (the whole winter) we had no snow. zero. the year before we had 1 inch (over the course of three months). and now we’ll have 18 or 19 inches in three days.
rugby has decided that it’s just easier to poop in the house than to go outside.
who can blame him?
Yesterday I received a package in the mail–from Michigan! It could only be one thing–a gift from my BDFINM (Best Dog Friend I’ve Never Met)!
Kim is a WONDERFUL artist–last year she made a custom Cardi Crew mug for me–it’s far to lovely to actually USE for drinking beverages out of–so it has a special place on my Corgi display shelf.
This year she really outdid herself–I ripped open the box to find three GORGEOUS miniature portraits of my Cardis–they are so detailed and capture the Cardi Crew perfectly! I love how she got all the details right down to Riley’s little spot along the bridge of his nose!
